How to speed up or slow down audio without changing the pitch
Slow a solo down to learn it, speed up a lecture, or fit a voice-over to a video. Tailwave can change the tempo and the pitch separately, or both together.
Change the tempo
- Open the editor, drop in your file, and select what to change (Ctrl+A for all of it).
- Choose
- Set the change in percent: +25% plays a quarter faster, −20% a fifth slower. The pitch stays where it is.
- Preview, apply and export. Audio after the selection moves to fit the new length.
The three tools
- Change tempo: faster or slower, same pitch.
- Change pitch: higher or lower in semitones (up to two octaves either way), same length. Handy to move a song into another key.
- Change speed: faster and higher, or slower and lower, together, like a tape or a record player.
Just listening slower?
The playback rate menu next to the play button (0.5× to 2×) changes how fast you hear it without changing the audio itself.
